Carlisle citizens will hold a public Interfaith Candlelight Vigil on the Square at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, to mourn the dead and stand in solidarity with the survivors of the mass shooting at the Pulse in Orlando, Florida.    Speakers for the service include Rev. Aija Simpson of the Unitarian Universalists of the Cumberland Valley, community and event organizer Christin Kapp, and Rev. Miller Hoffman of the Carlisle YWCA.

“What’s happened in Orlando is beyond heartbreaking,” says Kapp, organizer of the vigil, “and it has so many in the LGBT community and beyond afraid of what happens now. It’s time for Carlisle to stand together to offer our condolences to the victims and survivors of this heinous attack, and to say, as a community, that we reject hatred, violence, and discrimination toward anyone because of their gender, sexual orientation, or religion.”

Community members are encouraged to gather prior to 7:30 PM in front of the Old Courthouse, and to bring signs with written messages of hope and healing that can be displayed.  A giant card will be available to sign, and will be mailed to the Orlando LGBT Center that is serving as a sanctuary and counseling center in the aftermath of this tragedy.
