UUCV’s choral group, called Community Voices, provides music ministry through song during worship services 1-2 times per month. With the start to the 2022-2023 program year, Community Voices will start exploring music in the Heart Songs & Circle Songs collections by Heather Pierson and Bernice Martin. The music in these collections encompasses chants, rounds, layered songs, echo songs, call and response songs, and simple melodies.

There is no audition element to consider if you want to participate. No prior experience in a choral group is required, either. If you want to join Community Voices, just come to our practice sessions. We practice on Thursday nights from 7:00-8:30 pm in UUCV’s Sanctuary from early September-late May. Though we sometimes need to cancel for unforeseen circumstances (inclement weather, illness, etc.). Please contact Devon Kehler, UUCV’s Music Director, if you’re unsure about whether practice is happening on a given week or to be added to the email list serv for Community Voices.

There will also be more “attendance flexibility” this season. The only attendance requirement is this: show up to the practice the Thursday leading up to a Sunday service that Community Voices is scheduled to share a song. If you know you’d like to try out the group singing space, but aren’t sure you can make a weekly commitment, we should be able to support a more fluid attendance model.

If group singing isn’t your thing, there are opportunities for soloists and small ensembles to share music during worship services. Just get in touch with Devon.

On Christmas Eve each year we also offer a special Family Choir experience. Singers of all ages are invited to participate. Stay tuned for more specifics about musical opportunities for Christmas Eve 2022.
