The UUCV Choir, an all-volunteer, audition-free ensemble that welcomes singers of all voice types, educational backgrounds, and levels of experience, is taking a break for the summer. When we come together again to begin preparing for our fall season, it will be on Thursday, August 3 from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. We’ll meet then every Thursday evening at the same time for the 2017-18 season.
What do we ask of our choir members?
Our choir covenant says that “we, the members of the UUCV Choir, acknowledging our desire to create a ministry where trust, risk-taking, and positive musical experiences can grow and flourish, promise to strive toward musical excellence, mutual respect, and radical welcome.”
What that means in real life is that we appreciate how important the choir is to the worship life of UUCV—that we try to make attendance at choir rehearsals a priority over other conflicts, that we use our rehearsal time as efficiently as we can, that we put in extra effort between rehearsals when it’s needed—but most importantly, it means that the Choir is a group that works hard at modeling healthy relationships within our faith community. We aren’t perfect musicians (nor are we perfect people!), but we find joy in making music together and in adding to the experience of worship at UUCV.
The “rules,” such as they are, are simple: rehearse with us as often as you can. Sing with us in worship on the songs you’ve rehearsed enough to sing confidently. And be ready to discover why David finds it worth it to wake up at 6:30 on Sunday mornings!
We hope you’ll join us on August 3, or any of the following Thursdays. If you have any questions in the meantime, feel free to ask a choir member or contact David.
