April 16 UUCV Birthday Bash – Sign Ups!!!

 

Get a sneak peak at the events, services and food you can sign up and bid for at the Birthday Bash on Sunday, April 16.  Join us for worship at 10:30.  Bring a dish to share and BYOB and we will start in the Dining room for lunch.  Then move upstairs to the Social Hall for the Party!!!

April 23 $15 1029A & B Dianne Dusman will host Soup and Scrabble Sunday, one in the spring and one in the fall. The fun begins at 1:00 pm. Each will be for up to 10 people. We’ll have a hearty soup, bread or rolls and butter, beverages and fruit. Then Scrabble as long as people last!

 

June 10 $45 1001 Carol and Michael Riesmeyer will host an Apertivo Festival (an Italian Cocktail Party) for 10 people. A lively evening of Italian cocktails and an antipasto Grazing Table of Italian Appetizers. Drinks will include Prosecco, champagne, both Aperol Spritz and Limoncello Spritzers as well as non-alcoholic Italian sodas. The antipasto table will serve guests a Charcuterie board, Italian antipasto skewers, pressed Italian sandwiches, and some dips with bread slices. Italian cookies and mini-cannolis will be a lovely sweet ending for this evening, along with coffee.

 

June 17 $15 1003 Ever been to the fabulous BBs (aka Bents, Bumps and a Bunch of Bargains) in Newburg? If not, here’s your chance to visit this iconic store known for its incredible savings on a huge variety of items. Breakfast will be provided beginning at 8:15 by your guides, Carole and Tom  DeWall At their home. They will then transport you to BBs for a memorable outing, BYORB: Bring our own reusable bags. 7 people

 

June 18 $25 1004 Enjoy a sandwich and salad lunch at the Greens after church. Then learn how to play Hand and Foot, a four person card game, which is like canasta – Hand and Foot is THE card game in our family. (We’ll have 2 tables set up.). 6 people

 

June 25 $15 1006 Join us for an afternoon walk at the park followed by 2 – 5 PM an ice cream social on the deck at the home of Cindy Good and Paula Terry. 10 people. We’ll meet at Spring Meadows Park, located 1 mile from UUCV, at 2 pm.  

 

June 30 $25 1007 Summer Cocktail Party at the home of Gail Black. Wine, beer, spirits, softer drinks, heavy hors d’oeuvres and dessert. 5:30 PM. 20 people.

 

July 8 $40 1008 Susan and Max Lara and Mikki Williams will host a Cuban Dinner for 8, adults only at 4:00 PM.. Aperitivo – Appetizer: Ceviche:shrimp and fish marinated in citrus juices, Endalada – mixed salad with avocado, Plato Principal – Main Dish Lechon asado estilio cubano – Roast Pork cuban style, Side dishes: chatinos – green plantains, twice fried and crispy; arroz con frijole negros – rice with black beans; yucca – baked cassava  with olive oil and garlic. Postre- Dessert:Flan Drinks:  Cerveza – beer, Vino – vino, Margaritas and Mojitos, Té frío – Iced tea, Té caliente – hot tea, Cafe – Coffee, Refrescos.

 

July 14 $60 1009 Dennis and Kristin Schad will host a Bastille Day Rain Date July 21 Dinner for 8 people at 7:00 PM. The Bastille Day celebration includes a 5 course French dinner with appropriate wines.

 

July 29 $20 each 1010 Day at the Lake!  Saturday July 29 at 10:00 am. Located at Lake $30 family Heron Retreat, 171 Barnes Road, Liverpool, PA 17045. Amy-Jo Humpton will provide hot dogs and rolls for you to cook over the fire. Two kayaks, a paddle board, and tubes will be available for use. BYOB and other snacks. There is space for tent camping. You need to provide your own supplies for that. Campsite reserved until 1:00 pm.

https://lakeheron.com/facilities.html#Pavilion The Pavilion is a great place for small family picnics and camping. Erie Pavilion provides cover over four large picnic tables. A small and a large fire ring are available for cooking and campfires. A dock and a small beach area are located just in front of the pavilion. Camping at Erie Pavilion is primitive. There is no water, electric, or sewer hook-ups. A short distance from the pavilion is a privy. The privy is clean, and odor free. The Erie Pavilion area accommodates 6-8 tents and 2 pop-up campers for a medium sized group of people. The Erie Pavilion area has its own dock and swimming area.

 

Aug 12 $20 1011 Evening campfire program at Kapp cottage at 7:00 PM. Snacks, drinks, singing and of course, good conversation will make this a meaningful evening of connection. For eight people. Will do twice if there is enough interest. Hosted  by Chris Kapp.

 

August 15 $65 1012 Cathy Dewalt will transport you to Hershey Gardens with a side trip to the Hershey Story Museum. Hershey Gardens are a 23-acre botanical garden, featuring an indoor, tropical Butterfly Atrium. The Hershey Story Museum takes visitors on a journey through the life of Milton Hershey. It touches on his early failures, how he revolutionized the process of making chocolate and how the orphan boys of the Hershey Industrial School became the heirs to his fortune. Depart from Cathy’s home at 8:30 for breakfast at Hickory Ridge Family Restaurant in Middlesex township. Head to Soda Jerk Diner in Hummelstown after the tour. Cathy will cover cost of breakfast at Hickory Ridge, entry into the Gardens and the Museum. Purchase at Soda Jerk Diner is “on your own”.

 

Aug 12 $45 1013 Come to a Cajun Shrimp Boil and enjoy some fresh Gulf Shrimp & Louisiana traditional food!What is a Shrimp Boil……Fresh shrimp, potatoes, and corn on the cobb, sausage, boiled in a large pot with cajun spices. Emptied onto a long table and the eating begins! Red beans and rice will also be available. In addition to the shrimp boil music of New Orleans will fill the air. Time: 4:00-7:00 Dog on premises. Aug 26 $20 1014 Cards Against Humanity game night. NOT A FAMILY FRIENDLY EVENT! If your sense of humor is a little (or a lot) twisted, and you don’t mind poop jokes, and twisted adult themed humor, this is the game for you. Prepare to be shocked, lean into the awkward, and laugh so hard  you cry. BYOB. Twice if there is enough interest. Hosted by Chris Kapp at 7:00 PM.

 

Sep. 12 $25 1015 R J Lesch and Laura Rumley will offer a 3-course French Dinner and dessert for 12 people at 6:00 PM.

Oct 7 $35 each 1016 An Evening in the M moonlight hosted by Cathy Dewalt. Rain date Oct 14. Cathy Dewalt will host six adults on my deck. It will be a nice evening of good music with good people and good conversation. Dance if you wish by the fire and torch lights after the sun goes down. There will be finger food along with steamed shrimp and lump meat crab cakes. Cold beer, Coca Cola, or water for beverages. This is an adults only event please. The price is per person and starts at 6 PM.

 

Oct 8 $35 1017 Michael and Rebecca will host a breakfast buffet for 6. Bloody Marys and mimosas will be served alongside breakfast/lunch food. Vegetarian or gluten free available on request.

 

Oct 14 $20 each 1018 Michael and Rebecca will host a casual supper $30 for family (sloppy joes, coleslaw and baked beans). We’ll make s’mores around the fire. There’s a corn maze down the road (at Maple Lane Farm) if you want to stop there first. Either way, supper will start at 5:30. Vegetarian or gluten free available upon request. Bring a lawn chair if possible.  20ish people including children.

 

Oct 21 $25 1019 Beatles Songbook Night.  7 -10 PM Offered by Brian McPherson and Susan Vernon at the Home of Susan Vernon, 1108 Linn Drive, Carlisle. The Beatles songbook contains over 120 great numbers. Brian has the music. You can find the lyrics  on your phone, or maybe you know them by heart, like me. Pick your favorites and sing along or just listen while you enjoy delicious snacks and good beverages.

MAD $50 1022 Hot pot demonstration dinner hosted by Chris Kapp in the church kitchen. Learn about different traditional Asian foods and cooking techniques, enjoy a fun, communal Hot pot dinner together. For 6 people. Will host twice if there is enough interest.

 

MAD $50 1023 Join Chris Kapp in the church kitchen and learn to make your own filled dumplings. You’ll go home with several dozen dumplings with the filling of your choice. Limited to two people at a time. Will offer up to three times.

 

MAD $20 1024 Lisa Balig will host a game night at her house. Learn to play some offbeat board games, make some new friends and have some fun. BYOB, snacks provided. For eight people and can be family friendly and adult themed. Will offer twice if there is enough interest.

 

MAD varies 1025 Curious about your family history? If you would like to have some old family documents in German translated into English, hand them to Gisela Roethke. They will be handled confidentially. Bring them in a folder with your name on it. She will translate each individual document for $20 for 100 words. Up to 5 people with up to 5 documents each.

 

MAD $30 1026 A DRAWING OF YOUR D&D CHARACTER Get an original drawing of your Dungeons & Dragons character! John Simcoe is one of our resident artists here at UUCV, and he particularly focuses on comic book, sci-fi and fantasy line art. If you win this auction, John will work with you to draw your D&D character (or another original character from your favorite story or game).  

How it works: John will need a copy of your character sheet or dossier, plus a chance to talk to you about what you’re expecting. As John works on the character design, he’ll share you progress images to make sure things are looking great. Once the details are settled, John will deliver you the final inked drawing on 8.5×11 (or larger) paper.  

You’ll get: The original pen & paper line drawing of your character plus a fully-colored digital version for use in any online portals you game with. 

Number of winning bidders: Up to 4 (Four people can bid $30 each, and John will do a drawing for each)es. This is an adults only event please. The price is per person.

Since 1977 my family has wanted none other than this recipe. 9 inch (12 servings) graham cracker crust, with  cream cheese, eggs, flour, and touch of lemon for the main layer. Sour cream, sugar, vanilla top layer.
