Community Outreach
Faith in Action: Our Commitment to the Cumberland Valley
At the Unitarian Universalists of the Cumberland Valley (UUCV), we believe that our faith is defined not just by what we believe, but by what we do. We are a community of searchers, allies, and advocates striving to build a more just, compassionate, and equitable world—starting right here in our own neighborhood.
For us, community outreach isn’t a sidebar; it is the heartbeat of our spiritual practice. We partner with local organizations, raise our voices for systemic change, and show up for one another to ensure that everyone in the Cumberland Valley has a safe, supportive place to thrive.
Little Free Pantry

Thanks to the heart and hard work of the UUCV Youth, our new Little Pantry is officially ready to serve!
Located right here on the UUCV grounds, right outside the office, this pantry is a quiet way to “love loud.” It is a small space with a big spirit—grounded in generosity, care, and the belief that everyone deserves access to the essentials.
Common Threads

Common Threads is where the community gathers to knit, crochet, and quilt for the Homeless Memorial Blanket Project, supporting those in need beyond our walls.
Common Threads meets on the last Saturdays of the Month from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm in the UUCV Social Hall. All are welcome.
Change for the World

Our congregation is deeply committed to practicing generosity beyond our own walls. Every Sunday morning, we collect a special offering—whether it’s loose change placed in the basket, check donations, or online contributions—to support organizations dedicated to making a positive difference in people’s lives.
Community Cares

Every quarter, UUCV puts our UU values into action by preparing and delivering a hearty, home-cooked dinner for our neighbors at the Community CARES emergency shelter. This vital hands-on ministry is a true team effort, with our congregation coming together to donate fresh ingredients, cook in our kitchen, and deliver warm meals to 40 to 60 local residents. By sharing these quarterly meals, we help provide physical comfort, dignity, and a tangible reminder of our community’s care and support.
Carlisle Has Pride

At Unitarian Universalists of the Cumberland Valley (UUCV), our mission is to transform lives and care for the world. Central to that mission is our unwavering commitment to affirming the inherent worth, dignity, and authentic expression of every individual. That is why UUCV proudly and actively stands alongside Carlisle Pride to celebrate, uplift, and protect our local LGBTQIA+ community.
Carlisle Pride Ambassador

Chosen in an annual spring competition, the Carlisle Pride Ambassador serves as the public face and advocate for Carlisle Pride. This honorary representative champions LGBTQ+ visibility, builds community connections, and hosts local celebrations throughout the borough.
Through our close ties to the local creative and advocacy community, UUCV is directly involved in supporting, coordinating, and performing alongside the Carlisle Pride Ambassador.
Mozambique Bursary Project

The Mozambique Bursary Project is a vital UUCV initiative that helps rural girls in Mozambique access secondary education. By funding tuition, uniforms, and safe lodging, the project empowers over 100 girls annually to stay in school, delay marriage, and pursue careers as local teachers, healthcare workers, and agricultural specialists.
UU JUSTICE PA

UUJusticePA is our statewide Unitarian Universalist advocacy network. It connects our congregation with over 40 others across Pennsylvania to lobby, educate, and advocate for progressive policy at the State Capitol in Harrisburg.
