DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday\, February 28th Columbia University professor Lila Abu-Lughod will present “Muslim Women and the Freedom to Choose”.  The lecture will take place at 7 p.m. in the Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium on the campus of Dickinson College. \nNelson Mandela said “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”  Join members of the community as we continue to take steps to build bridges and change the world.

SUMMARY:Black Lives Matter Event
DESCRIPTION:The Dickinson College Choir\, Jazz Ensemble and Dickinson Improvisation and Collaboration Ensemble will combine forces on Sunday\, April 10\, 4pm\, Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium to present Black Music Matters: Performance as a Social Activism. This concert will interweave music and text to raise awareness about structural\, historical and contemporary racism in the U.S. The program incorporates writings by Langston Hughes\, Amiri Baraka\, and Katherine Chapin as well as the music of Florence Price\, Julius Eastman\, Duke Ellington\, Billy Strayhorn\, William Grant Still and Harry T. Burleigh. Music 353 will present a poster display in the lobby with further information about the composers\, poets and works featured in the concert. Parental caution: This program does contain material that may not be appropriate for young children\, including descriptions of a lynching and a shooting. \nAll music events are free admission unless otherwise noted.
